Polyurethane bandsaw tyres, 20 × 3 mm, pair

A pair of 20 mm polyurethane bandsaw tyres, 3 mm thick, for 190–380 mm wheels. The blade runs on the tyre: it grips the band and cushions it from the rim, so a hard or cracked one lets it slip and wander.

Rubber hardens and cracks with age, and its glue bond fails. Polyurethane resists that ageing far longer and needs no glue.

Measure:

1. Take the old tyre off.
2. Measure the bare wheel's diameter.
3. Measure the rim width.

Fit: it stretches on, so warm it first.

1. Soak them in 48–60 °C tap water, 5–10 minutes.
2. Never use boiling water.
3. Start opposite the seam, with clamps and a rounded tool.
4. Let the tyre cool before you tension a blade.
