Bandsaw tyres: polyurethane and cork

Polyurethane tyres in pairs by width and wheel diameter, tyres for Inca bandsaws by part number, sets for other named saws, and cork by the metre.

Measure the bare wheel, not the old tyre: its diameter and the width of the rim. Choose the tyre width from the rim, then the wheel diameter. Measure twice, order once.

Fitting polyurethane tyres

  1. Warm the tyres in hot tap water, 48–60 °C and never boiling, for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Start opposite the seam and work the tyre on with clamps and a rounded tool.
  3. Let it cool before you tension a blade.

Polyurethane tyres stretch on without glue.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which size to order?

Take the old tyre off and measure the bare wheel: its diameter and the width of the rim. Choose the tyre width from the rim, then the wheel diameter in the options. Don't measure the old tyre. Measure twice, order once.
My saw has three wheels. Which tyres do I need?

A set of three, one for each wheel. We have sets of three for the Inca Expert 500 (54.025.029), the Rexon BS10R, the Multico and Mecafer BS614 / BS360, the Emco BS3, and the Emco Swing and Sting, Metabo BAS 380 D and BS 1638 and Lurem Swing.
How thick are your tyres?

Our polyurethane pairs are 3 mm thick from 10 to 25 mm wide and 4 mm thick from 30 to 50 mm wide, and cork is 5 mm thick. Choose the width from the rim of the bare wheel; the thickness comes with it.
Do polyurethane bandsaw tyres need glue?

No. They are made slightly undersize and stretched onto the wheel. Warm them in hot tap water, 48–60 °C and never boiling, for 5–10 minutes, start opposite the seam and work them on with clamps and a rounded tool. Let them cool before you tension a blade.
Rubber or polyurethane: which lasts?

Rubber ages by oxidation: it hardens, cracks, and its glue bond fails. Polyurethane resists that ageing far longer. We also stock rubber tyres for the Euro 260 (54.186.077) and the Expert 500 (54.025.029).
How much cork do I need?

Enough to go once round each wheel. Measure the bare wheel's diameter, multiply by π to get the circumference, and order that length for each wheel, rounded up to the next metre. Choose the strip width to match the rim.
When should I replace my bandsaw tyres?

Look for cracks, a glazed or hard surface, grooves worn by the blade, and flat spots that make the saw vibrate. If the blade drifts and adjusting the tracking won't cure it, worn tyres are often the cause.
