Frequently asked questions

Which gas strut fits my MCD or MX?

The H-43.5248 strut is listed for the MX and for MCDs built after 1994. For an older MCD, send us the serial number from the plate before you order, and we'll check which strut it takes.
What gap should I leave between the bit and the chisel?

About 0.8 mm (1/32″) for chisels up to ¾″, and about 1.6 mm (1/16″) for larger ones. Set it with a coin as a spacer.
How do I sharpen a mortise chisel?

Turn a sharpening cone inside the chisel, against the inside bevels, then rub the outside faces flat on a stone. Touch up the spurs of the auger bit with a file. Our MCL cone sharpener is listed for chisels from 3 to 25 mm (⅛″ to 1″).
